JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant
REPORTS TO: Physician Clinics Director
JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective to the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the departments policies and procedures.

Newborn- Birth through 1 month Adolescent/Teenager- 13 years through 17 years Infant- 1 month through 1 year Young Adult- 18 years through 34 years Toddler- 2 years through 3 years Middle Adult- 35 years through 50 years Preschool- 4 years through 5 years Mature Adult- 51 years through 69 years School Age- 6 years through 12 years Geriatric Adult- 70 years +
CULTURE/RELIGIOUS ASPECTS: Employee will care for patients of all cultural and religious backgrounds. In view of the seasonal influx of people from all over the world, be prepared to care for patients of diverse cultural and/or religious backgrounds.
ETHICS AND COMPLIANCE: Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospitals/departments Ethics and Compliance Program. Is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance officer or hospital hotline.
Medical Assistant Functions:
Other Clinical Duties:
1. Performs ancillary duties as required, i.e. ordering tests, running
specimens to WPH, or picking up supplies as requested.
2. Assists in general hygiene of the clinic and self, keeping waiting room and all working areas clean and free of clutter.
3. Assists with back office functions as trained, i.e. rooming patients, taking vital signs, and performing lab procedures as certified.
4. Adheres to West Park Hospital District Standards of Behavior.
5. All other duties as assigned.
1. Attends department meetings and in-services and disaster drills.
2. Stays up to date on all changes/education affecting position.
3. Keeps current with CPR certification.
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program or equivalent experience preferred. Previous customer service and/or medical office experience preferred.
SKILLS: Previous computer experience helpful. Basic Life Support Certification is required.
Ability to retain information with aptitude for detailed work, ability to
follow directions, work flexible hours if necessary, to speak and hear (may
use corrective devices), good vision acuity or corrected acuity, keyboarding.
Job Classification A 0-20% of work time: standing, walking, lifting, carrying or pushing 20 pounds or less. Any lifting of 35 pounds or more requires the use of an assistive device and/or physical assistance. Up to 80% or more of work time: sitting.

15-85% of work time: standing, walking, lifting, carrying or pushing up to 35 pounds independently. When lifting, carrying or pushing greater than 35 pounds assistance or assistive devices will be used. 0-15% of work time sitting
Job Classification C
15-85% of work time: standing, walking, lifting, carrying or pushing items up to 100 lbs. and occasionally 150 lbs. When lifting, carrying or pushing greater than 35 pounds assistance or assistive devices will be used. 0-15% of work time sitting

Tasks that do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue, but exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures are readily available to these employees when needed.
