Hours include a combination of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.
Duties include: Responding to the scene of fire and EMS related emergencies for the purpose of saving lives, property and preserving the environment. Perform appropriate basic and advanced levels of emergency pre-hospital care for sick and injured patients in accordance with established protocols. Actively participate in the department's ongoing training program to maintain skill proficiency in fire and EMS related duties. Drive and operate fire apparatus, ambulances, and other city vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
Qualifications: Good social and communication skills. Ability to exercise good judgement in stressful situations. Must be trustworthy and capable of maintaining confidentiality in patient and department related issues. Must possess a high school diploma or GED, valid Iowa chauffeurs license, and a good driving record in accordance with the City's insurance carrier. Must maintain current Iowa EMS certification and be in good standing with the Iowa Bureau of EMS. Required to obtain certification in Haz-Mat Operations.
