Job Description Founded in 1921, Straub Medical Center includes a 159-bed hospital in Honolulu, a network of neighborhood clinics and a visiting specialist program that reaches throughout the state of Hawai'i. With over 200 physicians who are leaders in their fields, Straub provides its patients with diagnoses and treatments for more than 32 different medical specialties, including bone and joint, heart, cancer, endocrinology/diabetes, family medicine, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, vascular and urology. Straub is home to the Pacific Region’s only multidisciplinary burn treatment center. The hospital consistently brings new technologies and innovative medical practices to Hawai'i, such as minimally invasive cardiac surgery and total joint replacement. The Respiratory Care department provides quality therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care for our patients with acute chronic cardiopulmonary disorders. Our team is composed of physicians, pulmonologists and other health care professionals who work together to diagnose and treat diseases of the chest and lungs with an emphasis on treating asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease and respiratory failure. Our staff performs computer-based pulmonary physiology studies, bronchoscopies, bronchial provocation testing, treatment of sleep apnea and exercise oxygen desaturation studies. The department also has a complete computer-based pulmonary function lab. As the Medical Assistant I, you will join the dedicated team of physicians and medical staff that provide our recognized compassionate health services to patients and their families. In this role, you will perform a wide variety of patient care activities in our Respiratory Care department. We are looking for someone detail-oriented and attentive, with strong communications and patient care skills and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program and/or equivalent experience. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card. Preferred Qualifications: Six (6) months medical assistant experience. Knowledge of Classification Procedural Terminology (CPT) or ICD-10 coding. Experience with electronic medical records.
